About What Remains of Me

Studio FullFrontal is looking for voice actors to join the cast of What Remains of Me, an upcoming story-driven visual novel currently in development for PC and Steam.

What Remains of Me is an intimate, character-focused story set in a small American town.

The story follows Jake as he returns to a place filled with familiar faces, old memories, complicated relationships and parts of his past that aren’t quite as settled as he may have thought.

Rather than a large-scale adventure, the game focuses on people: conversations, friendships, romance, nostalgia, difficult choices and the emotions that come with reconnecting with a place and people you once knew.

The game is planned to feature full English voice acting, with a strong focus on natural, character-driven performances. We’re looking for distinctive voices that feel right for these characters, and actors who are excited about bringing them to life.

Want to get a better feel for the project? You can find screenshots, artwork and more information about What Remains of Me in our press kit.

The Voices of What Remains of Me

We want the voice performances in What Remains of Me to feel natural, intimate and human.

The game is heavily focused on conversations and relationships, so we’re not looking for exaggerated or overly theatrical performances. Characters should feel like real people talking to each other: sometimes confident, sometimes awkward, sometimes playful, and sometimes struggling to say what they actually mean.

There will be plenty of lighter moments, teasing and humour, but also quieter and more emotionally vulnerable scenes. We’re looking for actors who are comfortable moving between those different sides of a character without making every emotional moment feel like a performance.

Most importantly, we’re looking for voices that make these characters feel like themselves.

We have ideas of how each character might sound, but we’re deliberately keeping those ideas somewhat open. If you read a character description and think you have a voice or interpretation that fits them, we’d love to hear it.

Content Disclosure

What Remains of Me is an LGBTQ+ narrative game featuring romance, relationships, intimacy and mature themes. The main game does not contain explicit sexual imagery, but does include non-explicit intimate scenes and situations in which sexual activity is implied.

A separate optional adult-content DLC is also planned, featuring explicit versions and extensions of some intimate scenes.

Actors applying for Jake, Owen, Marcus or Adrian should be comfortable performing romantic and sexual material, including dialogue and vocal performances intended for the adult DLC. This is considered part of these roles.

The remaining roles do not currently require performances for explicit sexual content.

Meet the Characters

We’re currently casting several lead and supporting roles for What Remains of Me.

Below you’ll find a short introduction to each character, along with some general thoughts about their voice and personality. These aren’t intended as rigid casting requirements. If a character speaks to you and you have a different interpretation of how they might sound, we’d still very much like to hear it.

Jake Turner – Lead
Young adult

A former wrestling prodigy forced to return home after an injury abruptly ends the future he’d planned for himself. Jake is reserved, guarded and self-critical, often hiding vulnerability behind dry humour or silence. Much of the story is experienced through his internal thoughts, revealing considerably more than he’s willing to say out loud.Jake’s performance ranges from casual banter and awkward attraction to frustration and quiet emotional vulnerability.

Owen Ellis – Major Role
Young adult
Jake’s former classmate and high-school rival, with whom there was always something more beneath the surface. Owen is warm, playful and emotionally open, with an easy familiarity around Jake that quickly brings their old chemistry back to life. He’s comfortable teasing Jake, but equally capable of dropping the jokes when something genuinely matters.

Marcus Reed – Major Role
Young adult
A local mechanic and one of Jake’s former classmates. Marcus is grounded, calm and quietly self-assured. He doesn’t say more than he needs to, but rarely seems uncomfortable with silence. Beneath his imposing appearance is someone surprisingly comfortable with vulnerability, trust and simply being himself.

Sophie Klein – Major Role
Young adult
One of Jake’s former classmates and now a barista at the local coffee shop. Sophie is energetic, talkative and enthusiastically supportive, quickly inserting herself back into Jake’s life after his return. Her intentions are always good, even if her enthusiasm sometimes causes her to overstep or push Jake before he’s ready. She brings plenty of humour and energy to the story, but also has more sincere and thoughtful moments.

Adrian Shaw – Major Role
Young adult
A visiting photographer who catches Jake’s attention shortly after his return home. Adrian is charismatic, perceptive and self-assured, with a restless streak and an eye toward whatever comes next. As an outsider with no ties to the town, he offers Jake a glimpse of a different life and the temptation to leave his old one behind.

Dave Miller – Supporting Role
Adult
Owner of the local gym and a longtime mentor to Jake. Dave is calm, patient and quietly self-assured, with an easy warmth that makes him a grounding presence in Jake’s life. He rarely lectures or pushes, preferring to let experience and occasionally a few carefully chosen words do the talking.

Ethan Clarke – Supporting Role
Adult
A local high-school teacher and Dave’s long-term partner. Ethan is composed, observant and more reserved than Dave, speaking thoughtfully and rarely wasting words. There’s a sense that he notices considerably more than he chooses to say, with parts of his history deliberately left beneath the surface.

Ryan Hayes – Supporting Role
Adult
Jake’s neighbor and his mother’s casual partner. Ryan is confident, easygoing and teasing, with very little of Jake’s tendency to overthink things. Comfortable with himself and his sexuality, he approaches attraction and intimacy as something natural and uncomplicated. His confidence makes him an early source of temptation for Jake.

Laura Turner – Supporting Role
Adult
Jake’s mother and a nurse at the local hospital. Laura is warm, practical and genuinely happy to have her son home again after his injury. She’s supportive without being overbearing and tries to remain positive even when things are difficult, providing a sense of familiarity and safety while Jake struggles with how differently he now sees himself.

What We’re Not Looking For

We’re generally not looking for:

  • Exaggerated or overly theatrical performances
  • Stereotypical or caricatured portrayals
  • A deliberately “anime-style” approach to visual novel voice acting
  • Actors trying to force their voice to sound like what they think the character should sound like

Above all, we want the characters to sound like real people. Natural delivery, personality and emotional authenticity matter much more to us than having a particular type of voice.

About Studio FullFrontal

Studio FullFrontal is an independent game studio focused on character-driven narrative games.

Our development history stretches back 15 years, with our first games released in 2011. Over that time, we’ve developed and released numerous commercial projects, including Super Health Club, Hunk Empire and Springs of Ardor, and have experience taking games through development, release and long-term post-launch support.

What Remains of Me is a new IP and represents a step forward for us in both presentation and production values, with a fully voiced cast, an original soundtrack and a coordinated Steam release.

The project is already fully funded and in active development. We’re not assembling a speculative team around an idea and hoping to find funding later. We’re building on 15 years of experience to create something more ambitious than our previous projects.

Who Can Apply

Both established professionals and newer voice actors are very welcome. Previous commercial acting or game credits are not required.

We’re primarily interested in your performance and whether you feel right for the character.

If you’re relatively new professionally but we hear your audition and immediately think that’s the character, we want to hear from you. Likewise, experience in film, theatre, audio drama, animation or other forms of acting is just as interesting to us as previous game work.

We’re particularly interested in actors who:

  • Deliver natural, believable performances
  • Are comfortable with both humour and emotionally vulnerable scenes
  • Can handle subtle shifts in emotion without overplaying them
  • Are comfortable portraying LGBTQ+ characters, relationships and themes
  • Take direction well while bringing their own interpretation to a character
  • Are interested in becoming part of the project rather than simply recording lines

Remote Recording

Voice recording for What Remains of Me will be handled remotely, so actors must have access to their own suitable recording setup.

You don’t need to work from a commercial studio, but you should be able to provide clean, production-quality recordings from an acoustically treated or otherwise suitable recording environment, without noticeable background noise, echo or room reverb.

Please include details of your microphone and recording setup when applying.

Commercial Project & Rights

This is a fully funded, paid commercial project. This is not an unpaid or revenue-share-only production.

Selected actors will be contracted to provide voice performances for What Remains of Me. Studio FullFrontal will require the necessary perpetual worldwide rights to use the resulting recordings within the game and in related marketing, promotional materials and trailers.

Actors will receive credit and may choose to be credited under their professional name, stage name or a pseudonym.

Your recordings will not be used to train AI voice models, clone your voice or generate new dialogue in your voice. Any such use would require a separate agreement and your explicit consent.

Detailed usage rights, compensation and other terms will be agreed upon contractually before recording begins.

Scope & Schedule

What Remains of Me is currently in active development, and we’re casting relatively early in production.

We’re aiming for approximately six hours of gameplay, with additional scenes and story variations available through different choices and repeat playthroughs.

Because development is ongoing, final dialogue counts and recording schedules are not yet available. Roles vary considerably in size, from lead characters appearing throughout the game to smaller supporting roles.

Recording is currently planned for May 2027 and will take place remotely. Before accepting a role, actors will receive more detailed information about the expected scope, rates and recording schedule.

We’re looking for actors who are interested in developing these characters with us. While the script and characters are ours, we welcome questions, ideas and interpretations that can help make a performance feel more natural and authentic.

How to Apply

Please send us:

1. A short audition
Please record the short audition excerpt provided below. The same excerpt is used for all roles and is designed to give us a feel for your natural delivery, personality and ability to move between lighter and more emotional moments.

Don’t worry about trying to make the performance sound like a particular character. We want to hear your interpretation. You may apply with a specific character in mind, but we may hear your audition and think you’d be a great fit for someone else.

Please send your audition recording to us by Drive/Dropbox link.
Audition recordings are for casting purposes only and will not be used in the finished game or other commercial material.

2. Your voice reel / previous work (optional)
If you have a voice reel, portfolio or previous acting work you’d like us to hear, please include it. Previous commercial credits are not required.

3. Your recording setup
Please include some basic information about your microphone, recording environment and home recording setup.

4. Your rates
Please provide your usual rate structure or an approximate indication of your rates for commercial voice work.

5. Tell us a little about yourself
Nothing formal. We’d simply like to know a little about you, your acting experience, whether any particular character caught your attention, and what interested you about What Remains of Me.

Audition Excerpt

You don’t need to perform this as any particular character. We’re interested in your natural interpretation of the scene and how you handle the shift in tone.

Context: You’re talking to someone you haven’t seen in a long time. Things start off light, but the conversation unexpectedly touches on why you disappeared from their life.

“Oh, come on. It wasn’t that bad.”

“…Okay, yeah. It was pretty bad.”

“But you laughed. I remember you laughing.”

[pause]

“Actually, that’s mostly what I remember about that night.”

“You know… I thought about calling you a few times after I left.”

“I’d pick up my phone, stare at your name for a while…”

“…and then find some really convincing reason to put it back down.”

“I guess after enough time passed, calling somehow felt harder than just…”

“So, yeah.”

“I’m sorry.”
